Progressing on the advances made by our Unlocking Accessibility consultancy project, the public charger was developed by the Duku team to solve the current lack of accessible public chargers.

The 22kW charger encompasses a ground-breaking fully-automated cable management system, in addition to an RFID contactless payment module and 8" touchscreen.

It also sims to be the first in the UK to meet the latest BSI PAS1899 regulations on accessible charging, perfect for use in residential streets and car parks by local authorities

Designed to make electric vehicle charging easier for everyone, the charger's research-led design provides quick, easy motorised cable extension that eliminates the chore of carrying cumbersome cables. The system allows all users, including those with limited mobility to easily extend and retract up to 7.5 metres of cable using buttons mounted on the plug.

The charger was designed and manufactured solely in the UK, precision engineered by Duku’s expert team to achieve the highest quality and reliability.

Public trials throughout development with key user groups have validated research-led design decisions and the inclusion of relevant mobility experts throughout the design process, including Helen Dolphin MBE and Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson; as well as relevant user consultancies, RiDC and Urban Electric, have provided valuable feedback to ensure that the charger is as accessible as possible.

Following the creation of this latest iteration, our team were delighted to showcase the charger at the London EV Show in November 2022. The charger received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback from fellow exhibitors and attendees, as well as a number of famous faces!

Further product testing and development is now in process to prepare the charger for mass production.
